Weekly rations

The Saturday farmers market has us eatin' good. Meats, seafood, fermented foods, bread, pastries, confections, cheeses, eggs, fruits, vegetables, herbs, mushrooms, flowers, nuts, beer, wine, wreaths and other natural adornments... the collective aroma of all these goods is exotic and intoxicating.

Here's our bounty for the week...

[Pictured from left to right: beets, cauliflower, garlic, muscadine grapes, kiwis, bananas, eggs, apples, potatoes, broccoli, zucchini, persimmons, mushrooms, a tasty cheese that starts with an M, slab o'ham, sausage link, leeks, lemons, carrots, ginger, apple juice, three types of beer, and a bottle of pinot noir.]

...And all this for the cost of a meal at a restaurant with cloth napkins!

Since we don't have a "yard," per se, or any type of greenspace to call our own, we've put our compost to work by situating it beside our carnivorous "pitcher" plant (Nepenthes). The fruit flies emerge from the scraps and fly right down into the attractive red pitcher-mouths. A rather convenient and economic situation for all of us - except perhaps for the flies.

Until the next!
